Alight......

Well after meeting the client, I cam away from the lecture rather more confused than enlightened with added information. I mean, I have several potential ideas that I am really getting into with my sketchbook but there were a few things I noted down from Rachel talking which made me realise that I am going to have to adapt my design...

For example, with regards to the printing costs of the posters and premium quality brochures, the amount of colours I use are going to have to be considered as the more colours needed to print the more funding it's going to take up from the alight events funds.

Also, specific sites haven't been chosen as yet for the street art pieces, so it's just a matter of creating lots of ideas and a matter of ruling out the impossibles when we have recieved more information.  From reading the brief, I really had my heart set on doing some type of street art, or installation but the lack of information of where and what times and what actual materials I can use is worrrying me so I am going to sketch up several ideas and move on with the print side to the brief, creating visuals for the premium souvenir brochures.....

Here are a few resources that I have been looking at to aid me with my research....

Which fruit do you like better... Blackberry or Apple.

Today's development in technology in mobile devices has almost split the population into two. The Blackberry or Apple IPhone. Personally, I am all over Blackberry, mainly because I prefer the aesthetics, the way the messenger is set up and I like the QWERTY button keypad, none of this touch screen malarky! But there is only one aspect of Blackberries which really bug me... is the apps. I find that the BB apps aren't as good as the iPhone ones. (I don't have an iPhone but I have an iPod Touch mp3 player)

In this blog post I am going to show you my favourite apps on both Blackberries and
iPhones which are design related.

There are some great photo editing apps on both phones but I feel that the iPhone is the winner on this one!

If I had an iPhone, this would definitely be my most used app, this app enables you to add a filter on your photos for example Lomo, contrast and Black and white filters.

I looked through all the Photo and Video apps on Blackberry app world and found a couple of apps which are quite similar but not as good as the iPhone app.

Instaphoto is a free BB app and the similar to Instagram, however it doesn't have the range of filters like the iPhone app. A few screenshots of this app...

However both of these apps, give you the option to upload your edited pic to Twitter or Facebook, which is a quick and easy way to share pics taken with your friends.

Another photo editing app is photoshop (for iPhone) Adobe Photoshop Express

This app features most of the basic photo editing skills like brightness and contrast, crop, and some effects like soft focus, pop art and negative filters. Like the other apps, you can upload straight to your Adobe account or other Social Networking sites.

On the Blackberry, the best I could find was Photo Editor Ultimate - costing £2.99 wheresas Adobe Photoshop Express is free. And is no where is near as good as the iPhone app.

Facebook apps on the phones are similar but personally I find that Facebook for Blackberry is more reliable seen as the chat works most of the time, where as the iPhone app chat was knackered, all the time and always you to get bugs and not many app updates to fix them.

There are a few more apps which are good but they all do similar things, with the
photoediting apps and SNS, it allows people to connect with people on the go, anytime of the day here's an example...

In the summer, I went to the cash point for my nan, and drew some money out. When I was counting the money, I found this £10 note.

My family and I found this very amusing so with the technology of mobile phones and
SNS's, I uploaded it to Facebook, to share the joke.

This new development in technology will have to biggest impact on design because it makes it more effecient to have the ability to upload and share, now, now, now.

Colophon Lecture...

This week I attended a visiting lecturer from a type based group called Colophon. YEAH.

I am going to be honest and say I didn't really find this lecture very interesting, mainly just because I am not a typographer but also, it was very digital. Maybe that is ignorant and small minded but just found this work really.......well......

BLAND.

Where would we be with out Social Networking sites.....

Stats on Social Networking Sites (SNS)

One of the facts from this article which interested me most was that ......

"An average Facebook users, have NEVER met 7% of their friends list. "

This statistic is interesting to me seen as it shows you that the likes of the internet can create relationships between between who will never probably meet, and are only 'friends' because of the trends or they have similar interests on Facebook.

After reading this statistic, and the more I thought about it, kinda freaked me out. So I deleted 'friends' off my list on the theory that if I could spend more than an hour with them. So I can safely say that, those 7% are no longer on my friends list.
